Dynastes satanas (Misspelled as Dynastes satanus) is a large beetle from the family Scarabaeidae. It humid forests in the
mountainous regions of Bolivia.
Morphology[]
Dynastes satanas reaches 115 mm in males and 55 mm in females. Dynastes satanas Has a pair of impressive, long horns protruding from the prothorax (exclusive to males of this species) The coloration of the carapace is brown to a deep maroon. Setae is present on the margins of the abdomens. The seatae is golden brown in colour. Their legs are rather long and quite sturdy, resistant to damage. The tarsus has three hook shapes claws.
Life cycle[]
The life cycle of this species lasts for two years (biennial) eggs are deposited in batches of 25-50 and grubs emerge after two months. Dynastes satanas remains as a grub for at least 1 year and 6 months.
Feeding habits[]
The grubs are Xylophagous, and consume dead and decaying logs, wood etc. the adult beetle feeds on nectar and pollen from flowers.
