Proturans are noninsect hexapods meaning that they have 6 legs, but are not classified as insects. Proturans are fairly small arthropods with sizes of about 2 mm. About 300 of them belong to the genus, Eosentemon.

Appearance[]

Proturans are small and usually white or yellow in color. Proturans do have no eyes, wings, or antennae. The front legs on proturans act for feeling and hearing, as an antenna's job. The head is shaped like a cone and bears two pseudoculi which act as eyes.

Geography[]

Proturans have been known to live worldwide in soil and leaf litter, where they will also lay their eggs.

Life Cycle[]

Proturans will deposit a spermatophore on the ground. Once the female finds one, she picks up the spermatophore in her genitalia. Once the eggs hatch, they will become larva. The larva will have to molt 12 times until becoming mature. Very little is known about proturan's life cycle, because humans have only studied a few species.
