Agrotis ipsilon, the Dark Sword-grass, or the black cutworm, is a moth belonging to the Noctuidae family.

Appearance[]

This moth's forewings are pale brown with brown and dark brown markings. The hindwings are translucent, greyish white with brown venation. The hindwings have a thin dark line along margins of them. The wingspan is 4 to 5.5 cm.

The moth gets its name from the black markings on the forewings resembling the greek letter ipsilon (Y).

Habitat[]

The Dark Sword-grass feeds off of potato, tobacco, cotton and cabbage.
