Kheper aegyptiorum is a dung beetle in the Scarabaeidae family.

Appearance[]

Comparing with other dung beetles, This species has a unique oval shape with a perfectly rounded apex and several longitudinal lines on the elytrons, The protonum is replaced with a shallow cavity, they have a flattened curved head with 4 small spikes, Their forelegs have visibly large spikes, they have a tough surface textures, K. aegyptiorum has a burnished-dark brown coloration. They have a single longitudinal line on the prothorax. the legs are matt-black. They have small curved C shaped antennae.

Behavior[]

such beetles feed on feces. Some species of dung beetles can bury dung 250 times their own mass in one night. Many dung beetles, known as rollers, roll dung into round balls, which are used as a food source or breeding chambers. Others, known as tunnelers, bury the dung wherever they find it. A third group, the dwellers, neither roll nor burrow: they simply live in manure. They are often attracted by the dung collected by burrowing owls. There are dung beetle species of various colors and sizes, and some functional traits such as body mass (or biomass) and leg length can have high levels of variability

Metamorphosis[]

Males will roll Dung Balls whereas the females lay an egg atop each dung ball and the larvae consumes feces from inside out and pupate within it's core before emerging as adult K. aegyptiorum.

Habitat[]

They Are found in Egypt and African regions of Savannha, They live in Desolated and Torrid climatic conditions and their populations thrive in arid climates. often found in deserts and wasteland.
